There are three zones of protection on Kozara, establishing aims and measures for future administration. The National Park Kozara administrates the special hunting area “Kozara” (16,728 acres), which is a significant potential for tourism.

 

Hunting zone type – hill. Game: deer, hare, wild boar, fox, wolf, lynx).
Hunting zone usage: raising game and shooting stand.
Hunting facilities: heated shooting stands (Razboj and Besica Poljana), lying in wait (high, low), feeding place (manger), salt-lick, etc.

 

Access roads to hunting zones and within hunting zones are passable for all terrain vehicles. Apart from hunting, there is fishing in Prijedor, rather developed, as there is fish pond Sanicani in Prijedor, with its 100 years of tradition in fish production, located in the lower flow of Gomjenica River, some 10 km south from Prijedor. The main supplier is river Gomjenica with its affluent rivers. Water regime is favourable, as the fish pond has good quality and uncontaminated water. The total are of the fish pond is 1,300 acres, production area 1,160 acres, divided in 34 fish ponds (2 to 130 acres). Annual production of fish is 1,200-1,500 tonnes. Carp is the main fish produced and cultivated; it dominates both in production and in fishing. Apart from carp, there are Amur, catfish, pike-perch, pike and others. As a special eco-system with rich flora and fauna, fish pond Sanicani has always been the place to attract nature lovers, especially hunters. With its huge water system and surrounding area of forests, meadows, pasture grounds, Sanicani hunting zone (5,972 acres) presents good environment for production, protection and hunting games (protected games: deer, hare, pheasant, dove, and mallard). From the economic view, mallard is the most interesting game, and it is especially interesting for hunters coming from abroad. Fishing society is also established in Prijedor.
