According to the estimation, presenty, there are around 105.000 inhabitants living in the area of Prijedor municipality, of whom 48% are urban and 52% are rural.
Natural movement and biological reproduction have an important role in social, economical and spatial demographical development of every country and population. In period from 1999 to 2002 negative tendencies in population movement were observed through decrease in birth rate and increase in mortality.
The population of Prijedor comprises also people of other nationalities such as Czechs, Roma, Slovenians, Ukrainians, etc.
Prijedor became an important commercial and trade centre thanks to Roman roads and navigation of the Sana river, as well as the first railway built in 1873.
Strong development Prijedor Municipality had after the World War II. Bearers of development were Iron Ore Mines and Celpak Cellulose and Paper Factory. Attractive potential for different kinds of common investment presents mineral deposits and mineral water of the Ljubija Mine.
